Creator's Corner

Coaching, Creativity, and Community

As I am preparing for this new year’s adventure, to art journal everyday, a few things needed attention.  First of all I needed to get all of my art material together and prepare my journal.  What I am using for a journal is a blue coloured Canson brand, mix media paper book.  From some of the reading I have done on art journaling, it was recommended to prepare some of the pages in advance.  To do this I started with applying gesso to the pages.

Paint over the page with gesso and then place wax paper over top of it until it dries, so you can move on to do the next page.  The wax paper lifts off nicely.  The gesso gives the paper some texture, some tooth for whatever medium to better stick.  It also prevents the paint from soaking into the paper, which will save you paint and the results will be different.  Try both, with and without gesso and see which you prefer.  It is also suggested to add colour somehow to each page.  Whether that be with paint, markers, coloured pencils, pastels, gluing other coloured paper onto each page… mix it up and have some fun with it.  The thought behind this is so you are not faced with a blank white page every time you sit down to journal.

My husband got involved and decided to paint a pic for the area I am going to be using to do my journaling in.  It turned out great!

All cleaned up and organized, with some inspirational pics all around me, I am ready to get started.

Happy New Year everyone!

What a great studio set up! I like how your desk looks like an old school painting palette:)
