Coaching, Creativity, and Community
A few years ago, I was driving, listening to music and a song came on, one I’ve heard many times but this time was different.
Being a huge fan of lyrics, I listen to what a song says. Listening to the words of this song, this time, it hit me and I began to sob. Not a normal reaction for me! I don’t cry easily and have made note over the years, that when I do react this way, something huge is going on for me, and I need to pay attention.
The song is called I’m Movin’ On by Rascal Flatts. I realized later, when I reflected on my reaction to this song, that I had come to a point in my life that I decided to move on from my past. Realizing that decision was made some time ago, and the tears was a grieving of sorts, a goodbye, to my past. I spent many, many years focusing on all the details of my past and had gone through every kind of therapy and self-help group around. I walked through all the steps and processes recommended to me, so I could be well and happy. Each was valuable and served it’s purpose but I have to say that I wasn’t free from my past. I still had “stuff” and “issues,” that I wasn’t happy with and wanted to change, had tried to change these things many times throughout the years, but they still remain.
In the car that day, hearing that song, it hit me… I’m done with my past, done with watching the years pass me by. It was time to move on with life! This present life and all it has to offer me. The bright and happy future ahead of me.
What made the difference was learning in life coaching that “what you focus on, you get more of,” and that people truly can create the life they want. Putting all that focus on my past and my “stuff,” only kept me stuck in it, unable to see my way out. Yes there is a time and a place to go there and receive healing and go through forgiveness, but there is also a time to accept it all and allow yourself to move on!
The great news about life coaching is that it is all about the present and looking into the future. This is where life is. This is where happiness is. I truly believe that everyone has everything they need to create the life they want.
Starting right here, right now… are you ready?
