Dream Collage

A dream collage is fun to create, yet a powerful tool that is used to motivate and propel you towards your goals and dreams.

I put a picture of India on a collage I created in the past because it was a dream I had, to travel there.  And not even eight months after creating that collage, I was in India!  Was it because of the collage?  I believe it helped to motivate me and brought that dream into my focus and because it was in my focus, I made decisions, choices and most importantly, actions, to make that dream happen. I set the intention to go to India. At the time of creating the collage though, I had no idea of when or even how it would happen, but I knew that one day, I would go.

When creating a dream collage, I sit down with a stack of magazines, scissors and a glue stick and a piece of Bristol board and look for images that match what I want to add to my life or want more of in my life. Tangible items, like a new car, house, or a vacation, also, images of the person you’d like to become, qualities you would like to work on or values you’d like to instill are all great items to include.  Maybe a picture stands out to you as you flip through magazines and you don’t even know why but you are attracted to it, include those too.  Sometimes words come to mind during this process, if you cannot find a picture of that word, just write it on the collage somewhere.  Once you have a good selection of images, simply cut, trim and glue down the images as is visually pleasing to you.  There is no right or wrong.  It is your collage, to look however you like.

Once the collage is complete, put it somewhere you will see it everyday.  I taped my latest collage to our bathroom mirror.  Placing it somewhere you will see it often, at least a few times a day, will bring the dreams and goals to the forefront of your mind, and you will start to notice and become aware of the details of those dreams and goals around you each day. The human brain is designed to work in this way.  What we focus on, we get more of.  If your dream is to own a red Jeep, you will begin to notice every red Jeep around, as if the red Jeeps have suddenly multiplied in your world!  This is simply due to having your focus set on red Jeeps.

Having a dream board to focus on keeps me on track, is a daily reminder of my goals and therefore,  my decisions and actions will come into alignment with making those dreams a reality.  It is incredibly fulfilling to accomplish a dream! Looking back on India, it was a lot of work and determination, however, I proved to myself that I can do it, my faith was strengthened and now I have even greater dreams and goals on my board. Going to India was small in comparison to what is ahead.

What are your dreams?  What do you want more of in life?  Who are you becoming?

We do this over and over again in my line of work. We call them goal posters. We make them for year goals, quarterly goals… One of my first ones I made was drawn on a pillow slip with different color permanent markers. I used that pillow slip so much, wash and use until the pictures we so faded. Ha! But many of the pictures I drew on that pillow case did come to pass. We also draw goals on poster boards of course. I haven’t done one recently. Thank you for re-reminding me of this powerful tool.

Side note… Thank you so much for the picture I received in the mail!! I was expecting a bill with it as I also wanted to support your business. Or did I misunderstand you sell them? I love it so much. I will find a frame for it because that picture encompasses God’s word to me for the last 5 years. I hadn’t heeded in the past, then I had to learn to understand rest. I believe I am still learning. God bless your ministry, Jodi.
